In the past few weeks we have given grants to several people. Without your support we could not have done this. Thank you to all our supporters! (June 2011) Can you help us raise more funds? A coffee morning here, a sponsored run there, every penny helps our charity. For 2011 we aim to create a fantastic array of areas in the warehouse ST6 4LN to improve the look of our donated items. Thanks to Seddons, Howarths Timber, Simmons, PDI paints, Johnstones Paints We now have a new warehouse worker and his name is Ben! We now have a new Boutique with Chantelle selling gorgeous clothes shoes books and gifts and really low prices! Please continue to support us by shopping and donating clothes shoes bags and books! Come along and bag yourself a bargain! All goods are donated items, from shoes, books, furniture, ornaments, TVs, We even have a full sized theatre organ here today! Prices are very affordable as we aim to help our community furnish their homes in style at low cost. Donate items if you like... call the warehouse on 01782 499154. We will collect your donated items where possible, but NO FRIDGES or FREEZERS please. Events in 2010 have mainly been raffles, so we are looking for new ideas to raise money for cancer sufferers. Today (March 8th 2011) we received a donation of £395.00 from Barclays Thanks to Brenda Farrington and Eugene Browne who manage the charity warehouse! Saturday 17th October 2009 at The Graduate (The Corner Cupboard pub by Hanley Park) Mick Tunnicliffe organised a great night which raised £660! Saturday 7th November 2009 at the Kings Hall. Organised by Randy Conteh, featuring the Flirtations from America! Northern soul DJ''s and Sweet Soul Sounds too! £460 was raised for the Ben Howard Cancer Appeal! He''s on Facebook too now, only virtually of course, but friends and anyone who would like to share memories of Ben are very welcome to become friends with Ben. This website was created in memory of Ben Howard, and to help raise money to help people who have been diagnosed with terminal cancer by offering advice, guidance and individual grants at the discretion of the trustees. It''s aim is to help others and help bring gene therapy, or other life saving treatments to Britain. In Feb 09, Cancer Research showed an interest in running trials of gene therapy. April 2009, Carol (Ben''s Mum) was one of the nine speakers at the annual British Society of Gene Therapy conference at the Royal Holloway University London in Egham Surrey April 22nd. See www.bsgt.org In July 09 Ben''s Mum successfully applied to No 10 Downing Street to launch an on-line petition to bring Gene Therapy to the UK. He was waiting for gene therapy which may have helped him. So far the appeal has raised over £25,000 and has given £3000 to cancer sufferers, Ashley Tyler, £1000 to Janet Ashmore, £2,000 to Nora Dean and £1,000 to Graham Shaw, and £500 to Ian Cotteridge in August 2009. In November 2009 we donated a further £3,000 to Janet Ashmore to help fund her Proton therapy in Germany. Janet''s therapy was a success and she is back in the UK. Look out for an update in the Sentinel newspaper. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bantransfats Monday 28th July 2008 (the day after what would have been Ben''s 22nd birthday) Professor Jon Dobson and Ben''s Mum were heard by many listeners of BBC Radio Stoke as they talked about Ben, his life and interests, the progress of gene therapy trials and the way forward. Big thanks to Local Community Recycling of Longton who raised over £1200 in a matter of weeks. They presented us with a further £2,600 on Saturday Nov 29th 2008, and £1,400 in May 09. August 2009 they have given us over £6,000 since November 08! If you receive a flyer with a photo of Ben and his Mum then please be reassured that it is a genuine fundraiser for the Ben Howard Appeal. Thanks to Ashley Tyler''s friends and family who raised £492.00 at Ashley''s funeral for Ben''s Appeal. Thanks to Meir Community Education Centre who have raised over £200 through donated books in 2008 Thanks to the Michelin athletic running club who have raised £100 in december 08 for Ben''s Appeal. Thanks to family and friends at the Corner Cupboard in Shelton where £80 was raised in a raffle. Thanks to Mick Tunnicliffe and the bands who played at the Corner Cupboard Pub which raised £700 March 28th 09 Thanks to Stoke City Council who raised £50 in collection tins around Stoke Market. Thanks to Olwyn and Yvette Jones who raised £35 with a Holistic Therapy day at Dimensions in Burslem on Saturday February 28th.
